Oldton Northumberland

Yes it really exist(ed), at least it did in 1857. I am researching my Lambert ancestors of Kirkby Malzeard and found that before 1600 they were from Horsforth Nr Leeds. A search of West Yorkshire Archives found at Bradford a Lambert family tree dated 1857 written by a Richard Lambert and tracing the family back to "Calton & Skipton in Craven & Oldton in Northumberland".

It also mentions: "The Arms now born by our family are Gales? a chevron between three lambs pessanrt argent a a–chief? - - or et azure". The writing is very spidery.

For anyone interested the document ref is 39D76/8.

Now I really need to know where this Oldton place was to try and trace other records – aagh – help.

Jean
